With only a few more days till the most awaited smartphone debut of the year, it is time to once again turn our geeky attention to the latest scoop on the rumoured features of the new iPhone.
The launch of the new iPhone 11 is said to be taking place at the Steve Jobs Theatre in its campus in Cupertino, California on September 10, 2019.
Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models this year, similar to 2018’s lineup. This year's sequels are rumoured to be called the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
In terms of design, the three phones will apparently look almost identical to last year’s lineup, at least from the front. The iPhone 11 will reportedly replace the iPhone XR, while two iPhone 11 Pro models are expected to replace the iPhone XS and XS Max. 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are said to have 5.8- and 6.5-inch OLED screens, while the 11 will have a 6.1-inch LCD screen with the same size notch at the top on all three models.
Based on reports, the higher-end iPhones should get three rear cameras which is its most anticipated feature. The third camera supposedly will be an ultra-wide lens. Bloomberg reports that we will be able to "retouch, apply effects, reframe video and more as it is being recorded live.”
The TrueDepth camera array inside the notch is said to be improved. As Bloomberg suggests, the phones will have an improved version of Face ID, capable of capturing a wider field of view.
The phones would also get a new software feature that would allow them to expand the frame of the photo even after the shot has been taken. They’re also rumoured to have low-light or night mode similar to the Night Sight feature on Google's Pixel 3.
The iPhone 11 is also said to be able to charge AirPods (and other phones) with the back of the new iPhones.
It is also rumoured that the iPhone 11 Pro will offer Apple Pencil support, and there are leaked cases with a holster for a new smaller Pencil on the back to support this theory.
The new iPhones will also have durable designs with a report of tougher shatter-resistant glass and even better water resistance. According to the Bloomberg's report, the glass on the new iPhones will be a lot tougher to crack with "new shatter-resistance technology”.
Additional upgrades to the processor such as a new A13 chip with a faster coprocessor, and the latest version of Apple's mobile software, iOS 13 are expected as well.
Apple has also rumoured to be eliminating 3D Touch in the 2019. They would still retain some of the same 3D Touch functionality as their predecessors, but it will be more of a haptic touch like what Apple did on last year's iPhone XR.
The 2019 iPhones will also have larger batteries, which combined with a more efficient processor could signal significantly longer battery life. They are also rumoured to have a reverse wireless charging feature which would allow to charge other Apple devices such as the AirPods (with the wireless charging case). Apple could include a fast charger in the box this year.
The iPhone XR sequel is also rumoured to be offered in two new colours- green and lilac options in addition to the already available colours. And the new Pro models are said to debut a matte glass finish on the back.
There you go… Although we are able to get pretty good idea about what Apple has in store for us about its upcoming debut, we will have to wait until September 10th to see if it will live up to our expectations.
